On Thursday 2 February 2023, the Standing Committee on Science and Research started its study of citizen scientists. As per an earlier motion adopted by the Committee on 26 September 2022, this study explored the “role and value of citizen scientists and develop[ed] recommendations on how to encourage and expand the roles played by citizen scientists.”
Below, you can find a summary of what we overheard at the Standing Committee on Science and Research throughout the citizen scientists study. The following meeting summaries were prepared by Jade Chan (a PhD student in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto) and Cathy Yan (a PhD student in the department of Genome Science and Technology at the University of British Columbia), and reviewed by Evidence for Democracy’s Caitlin Fowler and Farah Qaiser.
