Ottawa (October 3rd, 2019)
Over 110 candidates debates are taking place across Canada today with candidates in Ottawa-Vanier participating in a debate on science and the environment as part of the coordinated 100 Debates on the Environment initiative.
“The government we elect in October will set the agenda for the next four years and we have a very small window to take bold action and prevent the worst of the climate crisis.” said Emma Bugg, Communications and Engagement Coordinator with Evidence for Democracy. “By holding coordinated debates on the environment across the country, we hope to send the message to our decision-makers that Canadians care about climate and want to see evidence-based climate action.”
Today, federal candidates in Ottawa-Vanier will participate in a debate on science and the environment organized by Evidence for Democracy, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ottawa, New Edinburgh Community Association Environment Committee, Overbrook Community Association, Lowertown Community Association, Lindenlea Community Association, Vanier Community Association, and Action Sandy Hill.
The debate will be moderated by Shahad Khalladi, a policy analyst in the office of the Chief Science Advisor, and Kayla Holmes, a Masters student in Journalism at Carleton University.
The Ottawa-Vanier candidates for the Liberal, NDP, Green, Communist, and People’s Party will be participating. The Conservative candidate was also invited.
The debate will take place from 7-9pm at 400 McArthur Avenue.
