Position: Contract Researcher

Location: Ottawa prefered but flexible for the right candidate

Duration: 10-12 weeks, starting immediately

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours/week)

Pay: $30-$33/hour based on experience

Evidence for Democracy (E4D) is a national, fact-driven, non-partisan organization promoting the transparent use of evidence in government decision-making. Through research, education and issue campaigns, we engage and empower the science community while cultivating public and political demand for evidence-based decision-making.

We are seeking a researcher to aid in the research and writing of a report assessing the state of funding for climate science in Canada based on a survey of climate scientists. The ideal candidate is passionate about science policy in Canada, able to quickly dive into a new project, familiar with survey design and analysis, and possesses excellent writing skills.


  • Fluent in English
  • Master’s Degree, or 2-4 years of relevant research experience
  • Independent, self-motivated, and able to work with a team
  • Able to adapt quickly to a new team and project and hit the ground running


  • Conduct background interviews with scientists and project partners
  • Design survey questions and plan survey dissemination
  • Analyze survey results
  • Organize and report findings to E4D staff
  • Liaise with E4D staff in the creation and production of a final report

Characteristics of a Successful Candidate

  • Familiar with the issues surrounding science policy and science funding in Canada
  • Driven to achieve E4D’s mission and outcomes
  • Clear, succinct communicator, including written communication to a non-scientific audience
  • Strong leadership: proactive at management and communication
  • Capable researcher, with experience in data analysis
  • Climate science and/or social science research experience an asset
