A strong democracy needs strong science

When Canada commits to making decisions based on evidence, not politics, it makes our country one of the safest, healthiest, and best educated countries in the world. However, making evidence-based decisions requires investing in the science and research upon which these decisions are founded. If we don't stand up for science and show politicians it matters, science becomes an easy target for government cuts and neglect.

For a decade in Canada, we experienced drastic funding cuts to both federal government and academic research, the scrapping of many important evidence gathering institutions, and the muzzling of government scientists. While many of these decisions have been reversed, President Trump’s recent attacks on science in the US remind us that we can’t ever take our victories as guarantees for the future.

With scientists marching all over the world, we have an unprecedented opportunity to stand up for science and smart-decision making. We can keep building the momentum for science and evidence-based decision-making in Canada!

This is your opportunity to stand up for the science needed for a strong democracy by taking the Science Pledge!

By taking the Pledge, you're showing your support for science and committing to support actions that put evidence before politics to uphold the security, health, and prosperity of all Canadians.

Both individuals and organizations are encouraged to take the Pledge.
