Alana Westwood leads E4D's national research program, coordinating the Network of Experts, as well as designing and delivering training workshops. She completed her PhD in conservation biology at Dalhousie University in 2016, studying forest ecology and bird species at risk. She draws on her experiences in academia, science writing, and the environmental non-profit sector to design original research and disseminate it to the public in an engaging way. When not striving to advance science in public policy, she keeps busy with species at risk research as well as teaching undergraduate botany.
