Silencing Dissent in Canada: Video screening and Q&A discussion organized by Voices Voix.

The workshop will feature a number of short videos from Voices-Voix’s recent project documenting groups that are being silenced in Canada. A number of the individuals featured in the videos will participate in a Q&A period following the videos.

Censoring Science

Why have scientists become the target of government policies designed to control and silence them? What is the impact of federal government budget cuts and abolition of programs in the area of scientific research? What kind of resistance is emerging in the universities? This workshop is sponsored by the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC).

Executive Director

Katie Gibbs is a scientist, organizer and advocate for science and evidence-based policies. While completing her PhD at the University of Ottawa researching threats to endangered species, she was one of the lead organizers of the ‘Death of Evidence’ rally - one of the largest science rallies in Canadian history. Katie cofounded Evidence for Democracy and now serves as its Executive Director.
