Earlier this year, the federal government unveiled its Artificial Intelligence vision titled “AI for All”.

But for many Canadians, AI already feels less like an opportunity and more like something happening around them… and sometimes to them.

It can look like a convincing scam call using a loved one’s voice. A job application screened by a system you know nothing about. A student trying to understand when AI supports learning and when it replaces it. A government service that works faster, but harder to challenge when something goes wrong.

AI also has a physical footprint. Its systems rely on energy-intensive data centres, large amounts of water, and infrastructure that can affect communities and the environment.

These concerns are real, and Canadians deserve a say in how AI is developed and used.
