Communications and Campaigns Coordinator

Evidence for Democracy (E4D), Canada’s leading science advocacy non-profit, seeks a dynamic and creative individual to join our team as a Communications and Campaigns Coordinator.

About the Job

E4D is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to join our team as a Communications and Campaigns Coordinator. The incumbent will be responsible for leading E4D’s communications and content strategies, ensuring consistent and compelling messaging across different platforms, and driving community engagement and outreach. The successful candidate will play a critical role in E4D’s overall strategy, aimed at strengthening our position as Canada’s leading voice in evidence-informed decision-making.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Campaigns Coordinator will design and deliver E4D’s communications strategy to raise awareness of the organization, its mission and impact with elected and non-elected government officials, as well as key stakeholders in the Canadian, and global, science community. The successful candidate will also represent the organization at relevant conferences and events, liaise with funders and donors, assist with media relations, and lead issue-based advocacy and fundraising campaigns.

Exceptional communication skills in English (and French is an asset), attention to detail, and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are essential to the success of this role.

Evidence for Democracy (E4D) is Canada’s leading voice for science, evidence-informed public policy, and transparent decision-making. Since launching in 2012, E4D has built a national reputation as a non-partisan and non-profit organization promoting the transparent use of evidence in public policy and decision-making. E4D leads independent research, skills training and issues-based campaigns to foster public and political demand for science.

Scope of Work

Communications:

In support of E4D’s strategic priorities, the Communications and Campaigns Coordinator will ensure that projects and campaigns are appropriately communicated to E4D’s network and the general public by crafting informative and compelling communications. This will include leading launch strategies, event planning, as well as writing newsletters, media releases, social media posts, and web content. The Communications and Campaigns Coordinator will also manage external suppliers and assist with media and partnership relations.

Engagement organizing:

The Communications and Campaigns Coordinator will ensure that E4D supporters are meaningfully engaged, including ensuring volunteers are actively involved in contributing to E4D’s mission. This will involve leading the management of E4D’s CRM and other channels for community engagement, and supporting the development and delivery of E4D’s suite of training resources and outreach programming.

Fundraising:

The Communications and Campaigns Coordinator will support the design and delivery of successful quarterly fundraising campaigns and other fundraising activities as required, including grant writing. The Communications and Campaigns Coordinator will also lead on stewardship of individual donors and identify future fundraising opportunities.

Desired qualifications, skills and attributes

  • A relevant university degree
  • A strong storyteller with excellent oral and written communications skills in English
    • French fluency is an asset
  • Experience developing strategic, public engagement campaigns
  • Experience conducting fundraising activities (including grant writing, donor stewardship, and fundraising campaigns)
  • Experience with media relations and social media
  • Experience working with CRMs and web content management systems
  • Basic visual design skills and familiarity with visual tools (i.e. Canva)
  • Independent, self-motivated, and team player
  • Thrives in a fast paced, quickly changing work environment
  • Excellent time management skills; ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident)
    Experience in managing volunteers considered an asset
  • Experience working in small, not-for-profit environments considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Canadian science system and public policy considered assets

Location

The E4D office is located in Ottawa. Options for hybrid work will be considered.

Compensation

We offer a competitive salary, commensurate with experience ($40,000 – 50,000). This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) position, which may require travel up to 10% of the time. We provide full-time employees an annual Health Care Spending allowance of $2,000.

Start date and term

Full-time; 1-year contract with possibility of extension. Preferred start date July 8, 2024.
