Communication Officer

Evidence for Democracy (E4D), Canada’s leading science advocacy non-profit, seeks a Communication Officer for a summer position to contribute to our science advocacy in Canada by supporting communications and issue-based campaigns.

About the Job

We are looking for a dedicated, tech savvy youth to join our team as a Communication Officer, to contribute to our science advocacy in Canada. The position may include tasks related to fundraising, creating content for digital communications, social media marketing, supporting on developing campaigns, event planning and managing tasks on the website and E4D’s new Advocacy Hub. This would be an ideal position for a communications or marketing student with an interest in science, looking to gain experience in science communications, and developing advocacy campaigns on dynamic issues at the intersection of science and policy. 

Evidence for Democracy (E4D) is a national, non-partisan organization promoting government transparency and accountability through evidence-informed decision-making in public policy. Since 2012, E4D has become the leading voice for science, evidence-informed policies and government accountability in Canada. E4D conducts independent research as well as training programs and advocacy campaigns.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with writing newsletters and other digital communications, such as social media and infographic design, updating the website, and fundraising outreach
  • Assist with event planning
  • Communicate with E4D’s donor community
  • Coordinate with E4D volunteers
  • Meet regularly with the E4D team and provide updates on projects
  • Other duties as assigned and agreed upon


  • Digital communications skills including experience with social media, and basic graphic design
  • Passion and interest in science, science policy and/or evidence-informed policy
  • Independent, self-motivated, and able to work as part of a dynamic team
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capacity to work remotely

Eligibility and Qualifications:

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The eligible candidate must be between the ages of 15 to 30 years, and should be at the beginning of the employment period. The candidate must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or with refugee protection, and have a valid Social Insurance Number. You do not need to be a student. International students are not eligible.
